random question

Post by tenar » Wed Apr 14, 2004 4:39 pm

you know those little icons by the side of the thread/topic titles - stickies have an exclamation mark, other posts have round ones with a kind of trapezium on them.

why are some of them brownish and some of them white. why do some of them move. and the, why do some of the topics have a little arrow and a square next to the title???

its all so mysterious.

As to why the little things move...
Those are popular topics. I think they start moving after 20 replies but don't hold me to ti.

As for the rest of your questions I would have to go look and come back to answer and that may take a while.
Maybe someone else will answer all your questions before I get back

If you go to the index page and scroll down to the bottem, it should explain the differences to you. :)

depending on what theme you're using
[the background colour the forums appear in]

they'll be different colours:-

i get orange and light grey.

the orange ones [probably brown for you] mean there's been a reply or that it's a topic i have yet to read.

white ones/grey ones means that i've read them, or that my modem died whilst i was logged in.

Sticky posts have the same exclamation logo as ones called
'announcements'
i guess it's just keeping it simple,

The little arrows square thingies are actually shortcuts which should take you to the newest/most recent reply to the thread they appear against.

the ones that 'jiggle' have received over 15 replies, and are termed 'hot topics' in php parlance.

Peace
ben

The different colours depend on whether there have been new posts since the last time you were logged in -- in subSilver, which it sounds like you might be using, orange means there's a new post and white means there isn't. I think the rest of your questions have been answered, but like Sassy said it should explain it down at the bottom of the page.

It's taken me some time to figure it all out, and if I see bus on my boyfriend's computer in a different colour scheme I'm just mystified at all the weird little icons. I need to stick with subSilver, clearly.
Hey Jude,
Don't make it bad.
Take a sad song
And make it better.
Remember,
To let her into your heart,
Then you can start,
To make it better.

Hugs are always appreciated.
